About Me

Sylvan Solloway Headshot

Storytelling is about finding the humanity in every story and making people feel connected through words, pictures and sounds. As a journalist, I’ve interviewed celebrities, politicians, experts and moms who lost their children. The most memorable stories always come with tears, laughter or joy.

For more than a decade I’ve been a TV journalist and online video producer. Working at four different television stations (national and local) I’ve served as a news writer, assignment manager, producer, on-camera reporter, anchor and executive producer of a newscast I created and launched. I’ve also reported, shot, edited and produced online videos for NYPost.com and Village Voice.com.  My news and feature packages won three Associated Press broadcast awards, including first place in spot news.  In Arkansas, where I launched the state’s first Spanish newscast, I was honored for my coverage of the Hispanic community.  Proud to say, I served as producer on two films about HIV, one in English and one in Spanish.

Now I am a journalism educator and Director of Career Services at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.

Some years ago I earned my BA at NYU in Journalism and more recently completed an MA in Media, Culture, and Communication. My research, presented at the 2013 Media Sociology Conference, focused on issues of gender and sexuality and concepts of family.

Off the clock, you might find me dancing salsa.
